Eng Tay is known worldwide for his unique figurative etchings. He presents families, friends, lovers, and solos, always engaged in a pleasant or joyfuol activity. Whether his subjects are in an embrace, playing music, or tenderly cradling a baby, they are a loving and uplifting presence. These luminous figures are often set against earthy, patterned backgrounds, with soft color throughout the composition. Born in West Malaysia in 1947, Eng Tay moved to New York City in 1968 to study Fine Arts at the Art Students League. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York, graduating as a graphic designer. From 1972 to 1978, he was a Participating Artist a Pratt Graphics Center, NYC and concurrently Graphic Designer for Red Book Magazine. He established his studio, Tapir Editions, in in New York in1993. Eng Tay's work is in numerous public and private collections worldwide.
