Profile for Joseph Borg
In his works on paper, he juxtaposes precision in etching and embossment with exuberant, uninhibited color in monoprint panels. His paintings, unencumbered by the size of a plate or press, burst with extravagant color and movement that challenges the intellect while stimulating the emotions. And, in his wildly popular “mini” editions, he focuses our attention into small square collages, that delight us with vigorous glimpses of popular culture. Born in New York City, Joseph Borg spent seven formative years on the Isle of Malta. Working as an apprentice for a local fine artist, his “artistic seeds were sown”. He continued to develop his artistic talents through apprenticeships with a number of artists and master printers. Joseph Borg has earned the title “Master Printer” from his peers, specializing in intaglio print making. In addition to traditional intaglio techniques, he uses the monoprint and monotype techniques, which provide him with a means of endless experimentation. He pushes his media beyond its traditional limits on his path of playful discovery. His love of music, particularly jazz has had profound influence on his work. “Music takes on a visual dimension in my work, revealing passion and energy,” he says, “I will leave it to time and the onlooker to form a judgment”. Joe Borg’s work has been widely exhibited in the United States and abroad. In Japan, he has been received as a “Western Artist with Eastern description.” His work was the only visual art in the living quarters of Biosphere II, the experimental habitat in Oracle, Arizona. You could travel to New york, Sweden), Austria, or Japan to acquire art by Joseph Borg. Or, you can order it here, at Estrella Fine Art.
