LIKA TOV of Jerusalem has gained international attention for her handmade prints that embody Biblical imagery as well as text from the Dead Sea Scrolls. She grew up in the Netherlands, with her mother, sister, and brother, the only survivors of a large family of artists, artisans, and musicians. She studied commercial as well as fine art at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Her family emigrated to Israel in 1963 where she married Emanuel Tov, who later became an eminent Biblical scholar and editor of the official book series on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Together they travel worldwide for Emanuel Tov to lecture at major universities. (In Philadelphia in 1992 when Emanuel Tov was speaking at the University of Pennsylvania, Lika visited Emmie Galleries, then located in Old City). She is well known in Israel both for her handmade prints, collagraphs, as well for illustrations of Biblical stories she did for Israeli television. Her life and work was featured in an article in Hadassah Magazine in 1998.
